Ashley LaValley is an intellectual property litigator and strategic advisor with over a decade of experience guiding clients through complex IP disputes and counseling matters. She has experience handling matters in courts nationwide and across several technology areas, including medical devices, communication systems, and networking technologies.
Ashley manages matters from inception through resolution, including pre-suit investigations, litigation strategy, discovery, dispositive motions, and trial. She has briefed and argued appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Ashley also represents clients in inter partes reviews and other post-grant proceedings.
In addition to her litigation practice, Ashley advises business of all sizes, including start-ups, on development, protection, and enforcement of intellectual property assets. Her counseling practice includes patent licensing and procurement strategy, trademark clearance and prosecution, freedom-to-operate analyses, and agreements. She also provides risk assessments and infringement analyses tailored to clients’ commercial objectives and budgetary considerations. Drawing on her extensive courtroom experience, Ashley offers practical guidance on building IP portfolios designed to withstand enforcement and validity challenges.
Ashley earned her J.D. from The George Washington University Law School, where she served as Executive Managing Editor of the AIPLA Quarterly Journal. She holds a bachelor’s degree in physics, with a minor in mathematics, from Georgetown University.
